“Thank God for the burgeoning Melbourne crime scene. The television series Underbelly shows that Australia can do gangsters, gore, gutter language and gratuitous sex equal to the best that America can produce.

No more culture-cringing. Ned Kelly, “Breaker” Morant, thieving dingoes or Aboriginal genocide. At the end of the series you could amost here a national sigh of relief: culturally we have arrived. Doesn’t it make you feel proud?”
