“Probably Larry was one of the most arrogant men you would ever meet – he was ‘me first and me second’. He was an intimidating figure, an East Hills boy, who bullied people on the field and off the field all his life.”

John Monaghan, former football playerand roofing contractor, on Larry King of Beechwood Homes. Monaghan lost $20,000 in the collapse of the construction company. King once told Monaghan: “Tradespeople are just contractors, you only feed them crumbs.” His philosophy was, “The one with the most toys wins.”

King is clearly on a losing streak then, as he had been forced to sell his toys to try and raise cash for his ailing business. King apparently borrowed – and lost $40 million from the business – buying racehorses.
