“It simply adds insult to injury that multi-millions of taxpayer dollars, some declared, and more than are indirect and hiddne, are being thrown at a blatantly sectarian youth brainwashing and recruiting drive in a state and a nation that is substantially if not overwhelmingly secular.

Premier Morris Iemma’s obvious determination to abuse his office, evidently to assuage and support his particualr belief in a certain variety of fairies at the bottom of his chosen garden, is without doubt one of the more egregious examples in recent times of the power-corrupting process.”

Bob Curren of South Australia writes to The Australian to express disgust at World Youth Day. In the same paper, Karthik Subramanian of New South Wales asks

“Will the thou-shalt-not-annoy laws bring relief to members of other faiths who are constantly bombarded with messages in the mailbox carrying subtle threats about eternal damnation in hell and graphic descriptions of the fate of non-believers followed by a visit from fanatics convinced that they are doing their best to uplift our poor impoverished souls from a miserable future?”
