Cardinal George Pell’s call for Western nations to “populate or perish” alongside his climate change scepticism generated the expected response.

“OK George, you set the example.” Alan Parkinson, letter to The Australian.

“What Cardinal Pell really meant was, “No Western country is producing enough baby Catholics.” Garth Clarke, letter to the SMH.

“Cardinal Pell says he doesn’t believe in human-caused climate change, but would be prepared to change his mind if confronted with evidence for it. Isn’t that the position that atheists take about the existence of God?” Glen Coulton.

“Cardonal Pell is not convinced global warming is a man-made catastrophe. What is the alternative? An act of God?” Edwina Doe.
