“Ebony-tower liberals, sipping wines with names, over water views in peripheral Australia, will argue that it is a hard-won right to drink, that fundamental freedoms and equality are at stake. But when suffering drunken violence has become the accepted norm, freedom has escaped. The critics are welcome to put down their wine glasses and lend a hand in Tennant Creek, late at night, when reality is grim. In the face of sullen misery such criticism is inhuman. We all bleed the same colour.”

Doctor Dean Robertson works in Tennant Creek, a town plagued by alcohol problems. Tennant Creek is set for stringent alcohol controls.

Whatever happened to the good old Ivory tower?
Is that politically incorrect?

My “ebony tower” reference targets bleeding heart academics and activists who pontificate on Aboriginal issues without experiencing or understanding the problems. It’s not politically correct; in fact, it has racial bite.
