Cashed-up monkeys

“I think politicians generally are a waste of space and not good value for money. It may be argued that you pay peanuts and get monkeys but in this case I think we just got cashed-up monkeys.”

Daily Telegraph reader Steve isn’t happy with news that NSW politicians sit for fewer days than any politicians anywhere else in the world. Not everyone thinks this is necessarily a bad thing:

 

“You’re saying this like it’s a bad thing? Good grief, we don’t want them to sit longer, that would give them even more time to stuff up the state even more.”

Stewart Cooper. Another Daily Telegraph reader sees a greater issue at stake:

“The hidden agenda here is not laziness – it’s a deliberate avoidance of democratic process. If Parliament does not sit then no provision is made for debate. When governments in other countries do things like this we call it a “dictatorship”.
