Not a sniff of a chance

“He has sniffed his last chair, snapped his last bra and grabbed his last crotch – as leader of the West Australian Liberal Party at least.”

The Daily Telegraph reports on the resignation of Troy Buswell, and notes that Liberal backbencher Murray Cowper was apparently “squirrel-gripped”, or grabbed in the crotch, by Buswell – thus proving that Buswell is an equal opportunity groper. The paper’s editorial couldn’t resist the temptation to be punny:

“We’d like to say he was bowing out at the top of his game and with the premiership within reach, but in truth he never had a sniff of a chance.”

And in The Australian, one of the subeditors had a bit of fun with the following headline:

“Whiff of intrigue: Buswell told to go”

Finally, two comments from readers of the latter:

“I wonder what got up Troy Buswell’s nose to make him quit as leader of the West Australian Opposition?” Robin Flannery.

“Troy Buswell: ineluctably unelectable?” John Sheldrick.
