“Of course Paul Keating would think that Peter Costello was a nong. Costello didn’t even have the nous to become a multimillionaire whilst on a parliamentary salary.”

Peter Wall, letter to The Australian, August 8 2008. Another letter writer thinks Costello deserving of the criticism, judging from this view:

“To describe our former treasurer as lazy doesn’t even come close; he has elevated the unattractive combination of inaction, arrogance and the expectation of gratification completely devoid of any exertion whatsoever, to an art form.”

Stacey Lang. Jack Nicholson is not impressed either:

“Again he is showing he is (a) dithere with little appetite for a contest. Is this the behaviour of a leader? I think not.”
