The largely negative response to the V8 Supercars race at Olympic Park continues as readers of the SMH weigh in:

“So, we can afford up to $30 million to have V8 supercars blast around Olympic Park and millions to win more medals at the London Olympics, but we can’t afford to do anything about climate change?

Someone hand me my fiddle.

In my mind’s eye I see Nathan Rees in front of Parliament, wearing a top hat, red tailcoat, black slacks and spats, spruiking with the big megaphone (must be said with Cockney accent): “Roll-up, roll-up, we’ve got V8s, V8s at the Olympic Park, at this never to be repeated price, 30 million. Yes folks, 30 million. We’ve got noise, we’ve got fumes, we’ve got disruption. Do we care? No! We’ve got V8s. Can’t get to work ’cause trains don’t work, that don’t matter, we’ve got V8s. Car got stolen, police can’t find it, that don’t matter, we’ve got V8s. Kids ain’t got a teacher, that don’t matter, we’ve got V8s. Roads full o’ potholes, that don’t matter, the Olympic Park ain’t.

Roll up, roll up, to the Olympic Park, we’ve got V8s.”
