Two responses in the SMH to the appointment of deputy prime minister Julia Gillard’s partner as a men’s health ambassador:

The hypocrisy of George Brandis and Barnaby Joyce is breathtaking (“Gillard’s guy on campaign trail”, November 26). If Julia Gillard was a bloke whose wife was appointed an ambassador for women’s health, no one would raise an eyebrow. More likely, there would be all-round approval for the partner of such a senior government member stepping up to the plate. I say good on Tim Mathieson for being prepared to make a contribution.

And then this response in reaction to a piece by Annabel Crabb:

First Dude (“As well as Bob’s bananas, fruit from Fran for peels of laughter”, November 26)? We are no longer George’s poodles. First Bloke, please.
